CCMBC extends condolences and invites prayer for the family of Reverend Tom Cheung
Reverend Tom Cheung died suddenly in a car accident May 2, 2019. He began pastoring at Port Moody (B.C.) Pacific Grace Mennonite Brethren Church in 20, becoming lead pastor Oct. 9, 2016. Cheung was also serving as vice chair of the MB Chinese Churches Association in 2019.
Cheung was ordained at Port Moody Pacific Grace MB Church April 21, 2013.
Cheung leaves to mourn his wife Athens and three children.
“Rev. Tom Cheung was loved by our congregation and is remembered as a faithful servant of God,” says pastor Paul Leung, Cantonese pastor at PMPGMBC.
“I have seen how God built him up over the years to be our lead pastor. He was a humble and devoted person who served at PMPGMBC for 10 years, while demonstrating his leadership and giftings in preaching and teaching the Word of God.
“Rev. Tom was passionate about missions and devoted in prayer and in caring for individuals. He was an intellect with a creative mind and a sense of humour.
“Many lives have been greatly influenced by his leadership. His sudden passing is indeed a great loss and a deep impact to our church and the Christian community. His life and legacy will remain in our hearts always.”
“He was a man who loved God and God’s Word dearly,” wrote a group for PMPGMBC who created a Go Fund Me page for the family. “Many lives are blessed, transformed, and renewed through Tom and Athens’ ministries. Despite many challenges and difficulties, he remained faithful, obedience, and continued helping people and leading people to Christ.”
“Port Moody Pacific Grace MB Church will need our prayers and love as they process the loss of a deeply loved shepherd who heard their confessions, fed their souls, and comforted them over the past years,” says BCMB conference minister Rob Thiessen.
The public memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, Richmond, B.C.
