Announcing the Passing of Paul Francis

CCMBC extends condolences and invites prayer for the family of Paul Francis

Church planter and ministry leader, Paul Francis died Sept. 29, 2017, in Winnipeg. Paul was founding co-pastor of Gateway Community Church, Lower Sackville, N.S., with Kathleen Francis. He served as director of Mennonite Brethren church planting and conference minister in Atlantic Canada and also served as the Atlantic representative on the Canadian MB Executive Board.

Together with their two young children, Paul and Kathleen arrived in the Halifax area in 1991, where they pastored at Gateway until 2011. Over that time, he mentored local leaders and visiting emerging leaders on MB Mission’s ACTION and TREK programs.

“Paul’s love for God was evident in his passion for prayer, worship and sharing Jesus’ love with many,” says Ewald Unruh, former national director of MB church planting. “He was an innovative and caring leader who took pride in seeing his own children Lisa (Francis) Klassen and Joel Francis love, follow and serve God. He had a great sense of humour, a passion for the church to minister holistically within its community and a vision for the church to be a vibrant, faith-filled, worshipping community.”

“Paul loved those who were on the margins and understood their pain,” says Randy Friesen, MB Mission general director. “Paul understood that the true reality in life was in the unseen realm. He knew the reality of the Spirit of God and the powers of darkness, with which he struggled in recent years. Paul loved the presence of the Lord.”

Funeral services will take place at Westwood Community Church, Winnipeg, at 1 p.m., Oct. 7, 2017.

On Friday, June 16, there will be a 90 minute conference call that all MB church attenders are invited to participate in, as first announced in the MB Mission/C2C Q&A document. The purpose of the call is to answer questions regarding the proposed motion “that MB Mission assume responsibility for the mission and ministry of C2C network”. This motion will be brought to a vote by the delegates on November 1, 2017 at a Special General Meeting prior to Equip Study Conference 2017.

The call will be held at 9:30 am (Pacific Time) and will begin with the moderator of the call introducing presenters Steve Berg (CCMBC Interim Executive Director), Jim Davidson (CCMBC CFO), Michael Dick (Executive Board Assistant Moderator) and Executive Board Moderator Bruce Enns providing an introduction to the call. This will be followed by a Q&A.

The Q&A format will allow participants to enter a question queue. The operator will give instructions on how to enter the queue before the call begins. As the participant’s turn comes up they must provide their name, their church, to whom they are addressing the question and then their question. They will then be muted (to maintain sound quality) and the question will be answered. If a participant has more than one question they will have to re-enter the queue.

To participate in the call, you may use the numbers listed below. Once dialed, you will be greeted by an operator saying that you are joining the CCMBC Conference Call and will be asked your name and what church you attend, followed by the instructions for entering the queue.
