Notice of Motion

The Executive Board of the Canadian Conference of MB Churches is giving notice of a Special General Meeting to be held prior to Equip Study Conference Nov. 1–3, 2017, in Abbotsford, B.C. Agenda items and accompanying documents will be distributed and posted at mennonitebrethren.ca at a later date.

In January 2017, the CCMBC Executive Board unanimously passed a motion “that MB Mission assume responsibility for the mission and ministry of C2C network”. This motion will be brought to a vote by the delegates on Nov. 1, 2017 at a Special General Meeting prior to November’s Equip Study Conference.

The motion linking C2C and missions is substantial involving financial expenditures and major policy should be brought to a vote at a Canadian conference rather than at a special meeting which church representatives cannot attend. Such decision making is called “railroading” and is ethically and morally irresponsible. Please reconsider the date and process of policymaking in the Canadian MB conference.

      Hi John,

Thank you for your comment. The AGM prior to the Study Conference serves as the annual business meeting for the Canadian Conference of MB Churches. The meeting has be designated as an SGM in order to fully comply with our by-laws as we bring this motion forward for a vote. The CCMBC annual meeting is open to everyone, and delegates of member churches may participate in the vote. Our policy states each church is allowed to send one pastor plus one delegate per every 25 members.
There is no charge for attending the CCMBC meeting and you can register here: https://equipstudyconference.mennonitebrethren.ca/register/ccmbc-special-general-meeting/

      Blessings, CCMBC Communications
