Coaching and mentoring will encourage hearts of Mennonite Brethren camping ministry directors

Resourcing Churches Developing Leaders director Ron Toews is pleased to announce the appointment of Merv Boschman to the contract position of camping ministries coach.

Through coaching and mentoring, Merv will encourage the hearts of the 11 Mennonite Brethren camping ministry directors. He will facilitate regular gatherings for the camping ministry directors for the purpose of conversation, sharing and prayer.

Merv will also develop a proposal for a synergy that links camps to camps and camps to their supporting local churches. Observation and assessment of existing practices will occur, with the goal of proposing best practices in the following areas:

  • Discipleship training of young counselors/monitors/leaders-in-training
  • Gospel fluency of young counselors/monitors/leaders-in-training
  • Leadership training of young counselors/monitors/leaders-in-training
  • Camping board member ministry

“I am excited to explore the impact of camping ministries on the 1,000 or so young women and men who learn to lead at camp each summer,” says Toews. “Merv’s work will help us to understand how we can make the most of the work that our camps are already doing, and even accelerate it as young leaders reintegrate into their churches.”
